WORKSHOP ON PROVIDING PRACTICAL STRATEGIES AND TECHNIQUES FOR UTILIZING TEACHING AIDS

Government College of Education, Sector 20D, Chandigarh conducted a workshop entitled “Supplementary Aids for Effective Teaching for Prospective Teachers” on Friday.

(MOREPIC1)(MOREPIC2)(SUBHEAD)The aim of the workshop was to focus on providing practical strategies and techniques for utilizing teaching aids effectively. Principal, Dr. Sapna Nanda welcomed the resource persons for the day Sardar Jaswinder Singh, Lecturer Physics, Department of School Education, Punjab Government, National Awardee, State Awardee, Shiksha Rattan Recipient, President IAPT, RC-2, Inventor- Lab on wheels and Dr. Jeesu Jaskanwar Singh, Assistant Professor and Co-ordinator, Education Department, USOL, Panjab University, Chandigarh to enlighten the students with their knowledge and experience. Dignataries Ms. Neelam Dhamija, Former Faculty M.C.M & D.A.V College for Women, Chnadigarh, Dr. Sanjay Sharma (Secretary IAPT), Prof. M.P. Marwaha (Senior Member IAPT), Prof. Arbind Taneja (Senior Member IAPT), Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma (General Secretary, CGCTA & Assistant professor Physics, PGGC Sector 11, Chandigarh) were also present at the workshop.

Dr. Jeesu Jaskanwar Singh, having an exposure and experience of international level provided participants with valuable insights into the role and importance of teaching aids in creating an engaging and effective learning environment. The workshop explored different types of teaching aids, including visual aids, audiovisual aids, manipulative, and technology-based aids. The participants had the opportunity to engage in interactive sessions, hands-on activities, and discussions led by the experts. Participants gained practical knowledge and skills that they can immediately implement in their classrooms to promote better understanding, retention, and enthusiasm for learning.

The second session was led by Sardar Jaswinder Singh who has won around 70 awards for his work in science. To make science interesting for students, he has converted his car into a laboratory-on-wheels. During the workshop he recounted his experiences and how it helped shape him as a teacher. He also emphasised on seeking out sciences and mathematics in our everyday lives. He focused on demonstrating the basic principles and the logic behind them so students are clear in their approach. He also discussed great mathematicians around the world and encouraged students to think out of the box, use their creativity to teach old concepts in a new and creative way like the identity (a+b)^2 , table of 1-10 and interesting concepts like wonder sum.

The workshop organizing team Dr. Kusum and Dr. Upasana Thapliyal extended their gratitude to the resource persons for empowering the perspective teachers with the necessary tools and techniques to create impactful learning experiences for their students. Dr. Sheojee Singh proposed the formal vote of thanks to the dignitaries. The workshop ended on the positive note that the college is committed to supporting the professional growth of educators and promoting innovative teaching methodologies to enrich the overall educational landscape.
