CHANDIGARH OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL SPORTS DAY ON AUG 29

MORE THAN 40 PLAYERS TO BE FELICITATED AT THE EVENT: RANJAN SETH

Chandigarh Olympic Association (COA) in association with Sanjay Gandhi Educational Society will celebrate the National Sports Day on August 29 in which over 40 players will be felicitated by the Association. The decision to celebrate National Sports Day in an exemplary manner was taken at a meeting held here. More than 50 representatives from nearly 30 sports associations which come under the ambit of COA participated in the meeting.

Ranjan Sethi, President, Sanjay Gandhi Educational Society, “The event would be a befitting tribute to our iconic sports person Major Dhyan Chand. Players from Chandigarh who got first, second and third positions at both an international level or a national level shall be honoured by the COA for their achievements. In all, we are expecting a good gathering of players , coaches and representatives of different sports associations at the event which will be held at SD College, Sector 32.”

Apart from Ranjan Sethi other key people who were present at the meeting included N S Thakur, General Secretary , Chandigarh Olympic Association; K P Singh, Executive Member, Chandigarh Olympic Association; Hem Raj, Executive Member, Chandigarh Olympic Association; and Surinder Mahajan, Secretary, Chandigarh Badminton Association among others. President of Chandigarh Olympic Association Amrinder Singh Bazaz could not attend as he was unwell.

N S Thakur , General Secretary, COA said that not just sportspeople but even coaches who were instrumental in helping the players get top positions will be honoured. What's more, the Presidents and General Secretaries of different sports associations too will be felicitated at the mega event.

Informing further, Sethi said,“The whole idea behind the decision is to promote the culture of sports in a competitive manner in Chandigarh, which has tremendous potential.”
