Panjab University has been granted a patent granted for an“Apparatus for efficient growth of microbial culture at high temperatures”. The inventors Dr. Rohit Sharma, Department of Microbial Biotechnology and Project Leader, BioNEST, PU, Ms. ShivanshiVashist, Department of Microbial Biotechnology, Panjab University and Mr. K Singh. The field of invention relates to apparatus and instruments used in Biotechnology. It is an incubator for efficient growth of microbial culture at high temperatures.

The instrument is designed particularly for efficient growth of microbial culture at high temperatures and has overcome the problem of medium drying and charring. There is no such apparatus available already which comprises an incubator as well as shaker along with means for eliminating the problem of media drying/charring caused due to high rates of evaporation at elevated temperatures for sufficient amount of time.(SUBHEAD)

Inventors have analyzed that critical control of vapor pressure inside the apparatus is required so that evaporation of the media is drastically reduced and drying/charring of the media at elevated temperatures is prevented. Then there will be no need to replenish the media again and again when culture is being done for prolonged periods of time e.g. for several hours or days.

The inventors Dr. Rohit Sharma, Project Leader, BioNEST, PUand Ms. Shivanshi Vashist, Research scholar, Department of Microbial Biotechnology, Panjab University have proposed an apparatus that offers ease of use and enables microbial culturing at elevated temperatures without the problem of media drying/charring caused due to high rates of evaporation at elevated temperatures. The work was carried out by Ms. Shivanshi Vashistand Mr Singh under the guidance of Dr. Rohit Sharma.
