Fairway Comets completed a comprehensive 5.5-1.5 win over the Pirates of the Greens as they did not lose a single game on their way to climbing to the top of the Havells Lloyd CGL 2023 leaderboard being played here at the Chandigarh Golf Club. The other three matches of the day finished 6-1 in the favour of Hunting Hawks, Empire & Signature by KLV as they downed Golf Ninjas, Netsmartz Tigers & Sleepy Owl Chargers respectively.

Despite being the anchor game, Alamgir Grewal & Pradeep S Randhawa combined magnificently to finish their game first with an 8&7 result to put the first point on the board for the Fairway Comets. IS Dhillon & Kanwaljit Singh Gill combined to ensure there was no letting up and won 5&3 while three games finished all square. Sagar Arora won his third consecutive game in 4&3 result while Admiral Sunil Lanba & VK Singh brought home another full point. The Pirates of the Greens had an off day but could very well have pulled off a couple of wins of their own by making a few clutch putts.

The Ninjas looking for their first win of the tournament looked out of their depth as the Hunting Hawks never gave them a chance in the match with the singles finishing before the 13th hole as Jaspreet Singh Bakshi won 8&6 and Puneet Dhiman won 7&6 to give the Hawks strong momentum. The fourball games were pretty one sided as well with two scores of 6&5 and one of 5&3 by the Hawks all but sealed the fate of the match.

In what was anticipated to be a close match, Empire eventually put six past the woefully out of form Netsmartz Tigers. None of the games lasted the distance with Baljinder Singh Sidhu & Brig. Balvinder Singh winning their singles easily. A couple of 2&1 wins in the fourball games were complemented by a 3&2 win by the pair of Col HIS Brar & Sunali Aggarwal as Empire ruled over the Tigers in a crucial Group C match.

In the final match of the day, Sleepy Owl Chargers could not continue their two match winning streak as they were downed by an inspired Signature by KLV performance. Coming in on the back of a win, the Signature by KLV team singles players, Dalip Kang & Himmat Sandhu, both won convincingly 4&3. Divanshu Nayyar & Dr Arun Gupta won 5&4 to turn the tie decisively in their team’s favour as the Chargers has no answers to the KLV onslaught.

Results

Fairway Comets 5.5-1.5 Pirates of the Greens

Golf Ninjas 1-6 Hunting Hawks

Empire 6-1 Netsmartz Tigers

Sleepy Owl Chargers 1-6 Signature by KLV.
