EXCISE DEPTT. RAIDS ON ILLEGAL SALE OF LIQUOR, SIEZED 767 BOTTLES WITHOUT PERMIT

In order to curb the illegal sale of Imported Foreign Liquor, Indian Made Foreign Liquor and Country Liquor (IFL, IMFL and CL), from the liquor vends and to prevent evasion of Excise Levies & Taxes, an enforcement team of the Excise and Taxation Department, U.T. Chandigarh, conducted a series of random inspections on the liquor vends located in Sector 7, Sector-17, Sector 33 and Industrial Area Phase- 2 during past few days as an on-going special enforcement drive. During these inspections, a total of 757 bottles of various brands of IFL, MFL & CL were found without valid pass/permits and were confiscated by the inspecting teams. Cases for breach of Excise Law have been initiated against the defaulter licensees.

Excise Department has been actively coordinating with Chandigarh Police for curbing illegal smuggling by way of sharing of information and regular coordination meetings.

This operation is part of the on-going efforts to maintain the integrity of the Excise system and protect the interests of the citizens of Chandigarh.

The Excise Department will continue taking stringent action against any individual or establishment found involved in such illegal activities. Those found involved in duty evasion will be held accountable under Excise laws.
