3 Base Repair Depot Chandigarh will be celebrating its Diamond Jubilee on 01 Dec 2023. Air Marshal Vibhas Pande,Air Officer Commanding-in- chief, Maintenance Command, Indian Air Force will be the Chief Guest. Several dignitaries and veterans of the Depot have been invited to be a part of this historic occasion.
Air Marshal Vibhas Pande, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command along with Air Cmde Rajeev Shrivastava, AOC 3 BRD will release the Special Day Cover to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of the Depot on 01 Dec` 2023.
A seminar on “Skill development towards aviation maintenance for defence and civil MRO” will also be held at the Depot so as to give inpetus to 'Atma Nirbharta' in the field of aviation. The series of speakers comprises of retired senior officers of Indian Air Force and Indian Aviation Industry, who are contributing enormously in the private sector engaged in repairs and maintenance of military hardware
3 BRD, AF was established on 01 Feb 1962. The foundation stone of the Depot was laid by Late Mr. VK Krishna Menon, the then Defence Minister of India on 01 Feb 1962. Base Repair Depot has the unique distinction of being the only Repair Depot of IAF undertaking ovehaul of aircraft and aero engine as well as acting as an Equipment Depot. The Depot has the proud legacy of overhauling 1038 aircraft since its inception in 1962 .
Staying true to its motto “KAYAKALP” this Depot has been bringing the Russian Fleet back to life. During the last six decades, the Depot has been supporting and sustaining the Russian Helicopter and An-32 fleets in both international and national endeavours. In the face of many technological and supply chain challenges, 3 BRD has always played a pivotal role in sustaining operations of these fleets. The Depot has made huge strides towards self reliance and is continuously striving with zeal & vigour to reduce dependency on foreign sources.
