The next date for mayoral elections is set for February 6 by the administration, prompting Senior Congress leader Pawan Bansal to question whether BJP needs 15 days to change a presiding officer. Ultimately, the decision will be made by the people, as they are well aware, said Bansal.
Chandigarh, Friday morning at 10:30 outside the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, what happened is not just about Chandigarh but will be remembered as a dark day in the democratic history of India. Former central minister and senior Congress leader Pawan Bansal called the actions of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the Chandigarh mayoral election a murder of democracy.

However, we saw a glimpse of it when they first made the secretary ill and today they made the presiding officer ill. When the AAP and Congress councilors, arrived outside the Municipal Corporation around 10:30 am for Mayor election, they were stopped outside, and they were informed that the elections had been postponed because the presiding officer had fallen ill.
Although there was tight security in the municipal corporation and only a few people were allowed in besides the councilors due to Section 144, including myself, I was stopped for about half an hour outside and was not even given in writing why the elections were postponed.
Pawan Bansal accused the BJP of manipulating their officers when they saw that the victory of India Block was certain. Such malpractices have never happened before in India, and now it seems that BJP is distressed by the success of India Block and is not inclined to hold elections anywhere in India in the coming times. This is the darkest day for democracy, and the people of India must take note and decide where to cast their valuable votes or make a decision.
