Face2News/Chandigarh

The Market Committee, Chandigarh has announced non-operational hours of Grain, Fruit & Vegetable Market Sector 26, to ensure better cleanliness nd hygiene standards. Effective immediately, the Mandi will be closed daily from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm. During this period, no sale or purchase activities will be allowed, and no vehicles will be permitted to enter the Mandi.

This decision has been made in response to concerns about the continuous movement of people and vehicles, which has hindered effective cleaning operations. Despite the best efforts of the sanitation staff, maintaining proper sanitary conditions has been challenging due to illegal encroachments by vendors and the high volume of daily traffic. Approximately 500 vehicles enter the Mandi each day for loading and unloading goods, exacerbating the situation.

The 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm time slot has been chosen for the closure due to the reduced public movement during the current heat wave conditions, making it an appropriate period for thorough cleaning activities. This measure is essential to maintain the hygiene and cleanliness of the market, ensuring a safer and more pleasant environment for all stakeholders.
