DC REVIEWS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ORDERS OF SUPREME COURT REGARDING REMOVAL OF ILLEGAL RELIGIOUS STRUCTURES ON PUBLIC LANDS

Deputy Commissioner UT Chandigarh Vinay Pratap Singh reviewed the implementation of orders of Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in Civil Appeal No. 8519 of 2006 titled Union of India vs State of Gujarat & others being monitored by Hon'ble Punjab & Haryana High Court in CWP No. 17976 of 2018 titled Court on its motion vs State of Punjab & others regarding removal of illegal religious structures on public & government lands.

Officers of Municipal Corporation, Engineering Dept, Land Acquisition Office, Chandigarh Housing Board, SDMs & Chandigarh Police attended the meeting. Officers representing concerned Departments informed that notices have been issued to 100 plus illegal religious structures in their jurisdictions directing the managers/occupants of such illegal religious structures to remove the illegal structures within 4 weeks, failing which Chandigarh Administration will demolish the illegal structures at their cost.

(SUBHEAD)DC directed all Departments to prepare 6 month action plan for demolition of illegal religious structures and submit within next 2 weeks so that demolition schedule can be executed immediately. SDMs & SDPOs were also asked to associate themselves in the process of preparing action plan by Departments for meticulous planning of demolition. Engineering Dept & Municipal Corporation were asked to cut off power & water supply to such illegal structures as per demolition schedule.

DC briefed that the whole demolition exercise is being carried out on the directions of Hon'ble Supreme Court which is being regularly monitored by Hon'ble High Court of Punjab and Haryana and next date of hearing in High Court is 20th August.
