UT ADMINISTRATOR AND PUNJAB GOVERNOR ORDERED MAGISTERIAL INQUIRY INTO ELECTRUCTION INCIDENT, XEN AND SDE SUSPENDED

On the directions of Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Deputy Commissioner UT Chandigarh has ordered a Magisterial Inquiry following the tragic electrocution resulting into death of a 17-year-old young boy due to a electric transformer in Sector 8 on Thursday evening. Deeply distressed by the incident, he has instructed a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of death, identify any lapses by officials, and recommend necessary precautions to prevent such occurrences in the future.

Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, accompanied by Adviser to the Administrator Sh. Rajeev Verma, visited the site of the incident to assess the situation firsthand. Administrator expressed his displeasure at the uncovered & exposed fuses of the power transformers and instructed the Engineering Department of Chandigarh Administration to take immediate measures to ensure the safety of residents in vicinity of electric transformers & poles in Chandigarh to prevent further cases of death by electrocution.

He emphasized the urgency for the Electricity Branch of Engineering Department to secure or cover areas around transformers to prevent future incidents and mandated strict adherence to all safety regulations set by the Power Ministry.

(SUBHEAD)Expressing his profound sorrow over the youth's death, the Governor and Administrator issued strict instructions to both the civil and police administration to take stringent action against those found responsible. He also called for fixing accountability within the concerned Department.

During the visit, Deputy Commissioner Sh. Vinay Pratap Singh, Secretary Engineering Ms. Hargunjit Kaur, Senior Superintendent of Police Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, and officials from the Electricity Department were present.

As an immediate response, the Executive Engineer and Sub-Divisional Engineer have been placed under suspension pending the inquiry.

Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh informed that magisterial inquiry would be conducted by SDM Central Naveen in a period of 10 days by associating technical experts in field of Power & Electricity.
