S. Joginder Singh, the founder of Daily Spokesman, passed away at 83 after brief illness. He breathed his last on Sunday. He was born on February 20, 1941 in the town of Chelianwala (Pakistan).
A lawyer by profession, Joginder Singh left an illustrious career to found and establish an independent media outlet. With hard work, he converted the mask magazine of 'Spokesman' started on 1st January 1994 into a daily newspaper called Rozana Spokesman on 1st December 2005.
His scathing writing style targeted the state machinery, shedding light on misrule, corruption, and individualistic bureaucracy. He faced stubborn opposition, but his populist stance highlighted the plight of the citizens and the state. Attempts to suppress his voice were futile and the Daily Spokesman quickly gained popularity under his leadership to transform into a leading and independent print and digital media journalism enterprise.
(SUBHEAD) Meanwhile Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday condoled the sad demise of founder Editor of Spokesman Newspaper Joginder Singh (83), who passed away this evening at a private hospital in Mohali after prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
In a condolence message, the Chief Minister described Joginder Singh as a dedicated journalist who was committed to the cause Punjab and its people. He said that the fearless journalist, who founded Spokesman Newspaper and took it to zenith, was a fine human being, who was committed to professional ethics and whose contribution in the promotion of Punjabi Language, Art and Culture through his writings would be always remembered by one and all.
Sharing his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family, relatives and friends, the Chief Minister prayed to the Almighty to give courage to them to bear this huge loss in this hour of grief and grant eternal peace to the departed soul.
In the meantime Punjab Information and Public Relations Minister S. Chetan Singh Jouramajra today expressed profound grief over the passing of S. Joginder Singh, the founder of Punjabi Daily Rozana Spokesman. S. Joginder Singh (83) had been hospitalized in a private hospital in Mohali for several days and breathed his last this evening.
In his condolence message, S. Chetan Singh Jouramajra shared his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family. He prayed to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength to the family to bear this irreparable loss.
The Information and Public Relations Minister said that S. Joginder Singh always fought for the cause of Punjab and Punjabiat and continuous his struggle in this direction, adding that the void created by the passing of S. Joginder Singh cannot be fulfilled.
S. Joginder Singh is survived by his wife and two daughters.
