Chandigarh’s iconic landmark, the Garden of Silence at Sukhna Lake, was illuminated in gold here today, to raise awareness about childhood cancer. This marked the first time the serene meditative space, featuring a seated Buddha, was lit up in support of International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, observed globally throughout September. The golden lighting, symbolizing the childhood cancer awareness ribbon, served as a powerful and moving gesture for this cause. The initiative was spearheaded by Access Life, an NGO dedicated to providing nutrition, counselling, education, shelter, and transportation for families with children battling cancer.

Children fighting cancer, along with their parents, Chandigarh staff, volunteers, and students, participated in this historic event. Their eyes sparkled with wonder as they witnessed the Garden of Silence bathed in beautiful golden lights.

(SUBHEAD)Supported by the Harish and Bina Shah Foundation, Access Life has been tirelessly working to bridge the gap and positively impact these children's lives by offering holistic care. Ms. Isha Nehru, Centre Manager for Access Life Chandigarh, shared her excitement: “It was truly heartwarming to see the Garden of Silence, a beloved Chandigarh landmark, beautifully reflecting our message. We extend our deepest gratitude to the authorities for their unwavering support in raising awareness for childhood cancer.

As we prepare to bring our Braveheart children and their caregivers to witness this stunning transformation, we also wish to thank the dedicated volunteers and supporters of Chandigarh, and the entire city, for their steadfast commitment to this cause.”

September serves as a time to recognize and honour children affected by this disease and their families, rallying support for their fight. Since its establishment in 2021, Access Life Chandigarh has created a home for 430 beneficiaries.

Access Life has been organizing this event annually during September for the past few years.
