SAVE INDIAN FAMILY OBSERVES SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY: MEN ARE THE MAJOR CONTRIBUTORS TO THE COUNTRY'S REVENUE, YET THE GOVERNMENT LACKS POLICIES TO PROTECT THEIR INTERESTS : ROHIT DOGRA, ONE MAN COMMITS SUICIDE EVERY 4.4 MINUTES, AND ONE MARRIED MAN COMMITS SUICIDE EVERY 6.5 MINUTES

On Suicide Prevention Day, activists of Save Indian Family (SIF) in Chandigarh conducted a peaceful awareness campaign at Sector 17, which will be held at various locations across the city throughout this month as part of Suicide Prevention Month.
The campaign was led by SIF Chandigarh President Rohit Dogra, with participation from the organization's activists Mahesh Kumar, Rajat Ahuja, Ankur Sharma, Somendu Mukherjee, Sandeep Kumar, Amandeep Singh, Ravinder Singh, Anand Kumar, and Hardeep Kumar, among others. Rohit Dogra highlighted that NCRB 2022 suicide statistics reveal that annually, 1,22,724 men commit suicide compared to only 48,172 women. Furthermore, the ratio of suicides between married men and women is 83,713 to 30,771. Alarmingly, the suicide rate among men is increasing rapidly each year, with one man committing suicide every 4.4 minutes and one married man every 6.5 minutes. The rate of suicide among husbands is 2.7 times higher than that among wives. The primary causes of these suicides are family issues and domestic problems.
Dogra pointed out that while men are the major contributors to the country's revenue, it is unfortunate that there are no government policies to protect their interests. He mentioned that SIF operates the largest and only nationwide helpline for men in crisis (SIF One) at 08882 498 498, which receives 5,000-6,000 calls monthly. This helpline has successfully saved millions of men and their families. Dogra added that the helpline has also prevented numerous men from committing suicide.

In India, many laws are misused against men, leading to the persecution of innocent men and their subsequent suicides. Dogra noted that there is no institution like a National Men's Commission for addressing issues related to men in India, nor are there government helplines dedicated to men. Even more shocking is the absence of official statistics on the increasing atrocities against men in the 21st century. This is not in line with the equality guaranteed under Articles 14, 15, and 21 of the Indian Constitution. Dogra concluded by asserting that men are also human and experience pain.
