KHADI ASHRAM CHANDIGARH CELEBRATES 100 YEARS OF CHARKHA SANGH

Khadi Ashram Chandigarh marked the centenary of the Charkha Sangh with a celebration at its Khadi's Showroom in Sector 17. The event featured Ms. Rachna Verma, wife of Sh. Rajiv Verma, iAS Adviser to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh as the chief guest.

(MOREPIC1) Khadi Gram Institution Secretary, Sh. Sanjay Kumar Sharma, welcomed Ms. Verma and other dignitaries, including Professor Manish Sharma from Panjab University, Sh. Rajiv Tewari Director Public Relations, Chandigarh Administration, and Dr. Aarti Verma, a Senior Ayurvedic Physician with AYUSH.

(SUBHEAD)During her visit to the Khadi showroom, Smt Rachna Verma commended the artisans for their hard work and extended her best wishes for their noble cause. She highlighted the growing presence of Khadi in India’s fashion industry, noting its sustainability and the support it provides to local craftsmen.

Professor Manish Sharma spoke on the significance of the Charkha Sangh, founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1925. He explained its role in promoting economic self-reliance and empowerment, emphasizing the spinning wheel as a symbol of dignity and resistance against colonial goods. He also addressed how the Charkha Sangh fosters local production and provides employment opportunities for marginalized communities.

Sh. Rajiv Tewari urged for more live demonstrations to motivate artisans and promote the self-sufficiency model envisioned by Gandhi. The event concluded with Sh. Sanjay Sharma expressing gratitude to all attendees.
