Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu today held a video conference with officers from various departments, including SSP Varinder Singh Brar, to prevent stubble burning incidents in Fazilka district.
The DC emphasized that the Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal have strictly prohibited stubble burning. She directed SHOs to interact with villagers and motivate them not to burn stubble, warning that SHOs will be held responsible if stubble burning occurs in their respective areas.
SSP Brar said that besides holding SHOs accountable, departmental action will also be taken against them if they fail to prevent stubble burning incidents after two show-cause notices.
DC Sandhu instructed Nodal and Cluster Officers to regularly visit villages and educate farmers about the harmful effects of stubble burning. She also asked them to encourage farmers to adopt environmentally friendly methods suggested by the Agriculture Department.
Farmers have been urged to manage stubble using machines available in villages. By incorporating stubble into the soil, farmers can enhance soil fertility and increase productivity.
The district administration has appealed to farmers to refrain from burning stubble and instead adopt sustainable farming practices.
