CBI COURT SENTENCES THREE OFFICIALS OF SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY, BENGALURU TO 4 YEARS’ RI WITH FINE OF Rs. 2.35 LACS CAUSING LOSS

The Hon’ble XLVI Addl. City Civil & Sessions Judge & Special Judge for CBI Cases, Bengaluru has sentenced three accused namely Shri M. Nagaraj, then Office Superintendent, Dispatch Section; Shri Shadab Khan, then Personnel Branch Clerk and Smt. Padmini, then Accounts Assistant (Retd.), all of South Western Railway, Bengaluru, to 4 years’ Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with total fine of Rs. 2,35,000/- in a case related to fraudulent payments causing loss to Railways.

CBI had registered the instant case on 27.04.2016 against then officials of South Western Railway, Bengaluru, on the allegations that accused public servants conspired among themselves to cause loss to the Railways by making fraudulent payments to the employees working in the office of the Senior Section Engineer, Penukonda.

In furtherance of criminal conspiracy, they fraudulently included the Tuition Fees and Hostel Subsidy Reimbursement against the names of 16 employees working in the said office, without any bills / receipts / applications in Edit Lists and Salary Bills. The accused thereby caused wrongful loss of Rs. 18 lakhs to South Western Railway and corresponding wrongful gain for themselves.

After completion of investigation, charge-sheet was filed by CBI against the accused on 21.11.2016. The Court after trial, found the accused guilty and sentenced them accordingly.
