SANCTIONS RS. 2 LAKH FOR ARMED FORCES FLAG DAY WELFARE INITIATIVES.. RS. 1 LAKH EACH ALLOCATED TO PUNJAB AND UT CHANDIGARH FOR EX-SERVICEMEN AND THEIR FAMILIES. GOVERNOR ADVOCATES FOR ARMED FORCES WELFARE: HONORS SACRIFICES WITH FINANCIAL SUPPORT.

Marking the 76th Armed Forces Flag Day, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, sanctioned Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupees One Lakh Only) each for Punjab and Chandigarh. The funds, allocated from the Discretionary Grant Fund, will be directed to the Director, Sainik Welfare, Punjab, and the Zila Sainik Welfare Office (ZSWO), UT Chandigarh, respectively.

The Governor, while reiterating his commitment to the welfare of the armed forces community, stated, “The Armed Forces Flag Day symbolizes our collective gratitude for the sacrifices of our soldiers who protect the sovereignty and integrity of our nation. It is our duty to uphold their dignity and support their families in every possible way.”

The Governor’s contribution underscores his dedication to initiatives benefiting ex-servicemen, war widows, and their dependents. The sanctioned amount will support welfare programs designed to improve their quality of life, reflecting the Governor's vision of ensuring their honor and well-being.

The 76th Armed Forces Flag Day was inaugurated in with the ceremonial pinning of the flag on the Governor by Sainik Welfare Officers from Punjab and UT Chandigarh. Prominent present on the occasion included Sh JM Balamurugan, Additional Chief Secy, DSW Punjab, Brig Bhupinder Singh (Retd) Director DSW Cum Secy Rajya Sainik Board Punjab, Commander Baljinder Virk (Retd), Deputy Director( HQ) and Col Jarnail Singh (Retd), OSD, Rajya Sainik Board Punjab and from UT Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner-cum-President, Zila Sainik Board, Shri Nitish Kumar Yadav and Col HS Ghuman.
This annual occasion serves as a solemn reminder of the nation’s obligation to support its soldiers and their families, fostering unity and respect for their service.

Instituted in 1949, Armed Forces Flag Day remains an honored tradition in India’s national life, paying tribute to the bravery and dedication of the armed forces.
