UT girls kicked off the calendar year with a win by registering 66 runs defeat to Assam in the opening encounter of Women's Under 19 ODI tournament at Surat. Assam won the toss and invited Chandigarh to bat first. Top scorer and opener Deepti Walia laid a strong foundation but the top order failed to support her.

Deepti smashed five boundaries in her innings of 41 runs. The joint efforts of Divnidhi Sandil (34), Jasmeet Baidhwan (22) and Taisha Manchanda (21) posted a modest total of 192/7 runs in the stipulated fifty overs. Kushi Kumari took four wickets.

In reply, Assam collapsed for mere 126 runs in the 30th over. Captain Amontika Munda (34) was the top scorer for the side. Aahan Vaid (2/17), Rakhi (2/21), Taisha Manchanda (2/21) and Tarunika (2/22) shared two wickets. Chandigarh is scheduled to play a second match against Maharashtra on January 6.
