A splendid bowling display from Vishu Kashyap (5/79) helped UT boys to bundle out host Tamil Nadu for 301 on the opening day of Ranji trophy match being played at Salem on Thursday. At one time, the host looked pretty confident with 287/5 in the final session of the day but Vishu and Sandhu held the key to send the rest of the team in 14 runs in the last ten overs of the day, giving the visitors signs of a comeback in the match.

Earlier, UT skipper Manan Vohra won the toss and decided to field first. The batting side made a prolific start with a century partnership without losing a wicket. Later, Nishunk Birla sent both the openers - Mohamed Ali (40) and N Jagdeesan (63) to the pavilion in the same spell to bring the score to 118/2. Vishu soon doubled the delight for UT boys when he dismissed PR Paul (14) and Vijay Shankar (1) with 126/4 on the board.

Andre Siddharth and Indrajith recovered the loss for partnering 121 runs for the fifth wicket. Vishu separated the duo by bowling out Indrajith (49) at the team score of 247. Thereafter, danger looking Siddharth (106) accounted for Jagjit Sandhu leaving the side at 287/6. Soon Bhoopathi Kumar (9) became Sandhu's second victim. In the final moments of the day, Vishu consumed Sai Kishore (10) and M Mohamed (0) while Warrior (1) was run out. Vishu was well supported by Birla (2/61) and Sandhu (2/73).
