In a major breakthrough, a gang was busted in FIR No. 24, dated 28.03.2025, registered under Sections 319(2), 318(4), 338, 336(3), 340(2), 61(2) of the BNS 2023 at Police Station – Cyber Crime, Chandigarh. Six (06) accused have been arrested under the leadership of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, SP-Cyber, UT, Chandigarh, under the close guidance of Sh. A. Venkatesh, DSP/Cyber Crime, UT, Chandigarh, and supervision of Inspector Sh. Rohitash Kumar Yadav, SHO, Police Station – Cyber Crime, Sector 17, Chandigarh. The details are given below:

The case was registered on the complaint of Raij Kumar, a resident of Sector 20/A, Chandigarh. On 23.09.2024, he received a call regarding a job in Vistara Airlines, followed by an online interview and an offer letter. He was asked to pay various charges—₹1,399 (registration), ₹3,999 (security), ₹20,550 (insurance), ₹10,000 (account opening), ₹9,269 (tax), and ₹95,500 (cabin and flat rent)—all paid via UPI, with the promise of a refund after joining. Later, he realized he had been cheated.

After registration of the case, a raiding party was constituted. With the help of technical assistance, raids were conducted in Delhi and Ghaziabad (U.P.), resulting in the arrest of six accused persons. During interrogation, it came to light that a previous criminal case had been registered against Shan-e-Azam in Noida for operating a fake call center. Further investigation in this regard is ongoing.

Modus Operandi: The accused posted fake advertisements related to jobs in airlines, shopping malls, vehicle loans, health insurance, etc., on Facebook and other social media platforms.

Victims came across these advertisements and contacted the mobile numbers mentioned. The accused lured victims into transferring money to various bank accounts on the pretext of registration, verification, insurance, and other job-related formalities.
