In a significant move towards enhancing the professional environment within educational institutions, the Chandigarh Education Department acting on the advice of the Administrator UT Chandigarh has implemented and inducted an elegant uniform for teachers across government schools.

This initiative has been first introduced in the PM Shri Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector-14, Dhanas, Chandigarh and has garnered high praise from Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh.

(SUBHEAD)The uniform specifications of the dress outlines that female employees will don sarees, salwar Kamaeez while male employees will wear formal shirts and trousers. This change is aimed at unifying the appearance of educators, fostering a sense of professionalism, and creating an environment conducive to learning.

OFFICIAL ENDORSEMENT: Administrator UT Chandigarh, Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria expressed his appreciation for this initiative, highlighting the importance of maintaining a dignified and cohesive appearance among teaching staff. He stated, “A unified dress code not only promotes equality among staff but also instills a sense of pride and professionalism.”

IMPLEMENTATION TIMELINE: The Chandigarh Education Department is committed to ensuring coverage of this initiative in all government schools before the commencement of class after the 2025 summer vacations. This timeline allows ample time for the smooth transition to the new dress code, ensuring that all teachers are equipped with their uniforms before the new academic session begins.

EXPECTATION FROM INTRODUCTION OF THESE UNIFORMS: Enhance Professionalism: By standardizing attire, teachers will present a more professional image, thereby setting a positive example for students.

PROMOTE EQUALITY:  A uniform dress code minimizes socio-economic disparities among staff, fostering a more inclusive atmosphere.

BOOST MORALE:  A cohesive appearance can improve team spirit and morale among educators.

The Chandigarh Education Department remains dedicated to improving the educational environment and believes that this initiative is a step in the right direction. The department looks forward to the positive impact these uniforms will have on both teachers and the broader school community.

With the dress code for teachers, Chandigarh becomes the first state/UT to implement this in Government Schools.
