The General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, former Union Minister and MP from Sirsa Kumari Selja said that farmers in Haryana are having to wait for several weeks to receive payment for their hard-earned crops.

The government had promised payment within 72 hours, but a sum of Rs. 873 crore is still pending. The grain market operations have collapsed. Wheat heaps are rotting in the markets, and the BJP government is remaining a silent observer. There is chaos at every level—transportation, labour, and management—and yet, the government's insensitivity persists. Under the BJP government, farmers are burdened only with hollow promises and false announcements. They have neither received timely payments nor respect. The farmers are distressed due to the non-payment for their wheat crops.

According to the data, around 3.3 million farmers have registered to sell their wheat at MSP rates. Over 12.7 million metric tons of wheat have already been procured. Kumari Selja said that the government has all the data on the"Meri Fasal Mera Byora" portal, showing how much wheat each farmer has sown and the expected yield. Based on this data, the government should have made preparations accordingly. Kumari Selja said that the truth is that the BJP has never been farmer-friendly; they only pretend to be.

In a statement released to the media Kumari Selja said that all the promises made regarding wheat procurement have been left unfulfilled, even though half of the procurement period has already passed. There is no visible facility in the grain markets, while the government is patting its own back, claiming success. In this government, there is neither anyone who acts nor anyone who listens. The BJP government, which sings praises of paying within 72 hours, should know that Rs. 873 crore is still stuck and owed to the farmers.

Farmers who are wandering around for payment are facing severe financial difficulties. The government had promised to make payments within 72 hours, but many farmers have not seen this promise fulfilled. The government seems to make promises just to break them. The lifting of wheat and mustard crops is also not being done properly, causing even more trouble for the farmers. The farmers' main concern is that they are not receiving fair payment for their crops, and they also have to sow the Kharif crops. If the payment is not made, how will they manage to sow?

Kumari Selja said that data from the central food grain procurement portal shows that wheat procurement is underway in nine states, including Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. In 291 districts across these states, wheat is being purchased from farmers at MSP rates.
