The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Chandigarh Regional Office, successfully organized an awareness programme on Cyber Frauds for the Chandigarh Resident Associations Welfare Federation (CRAWFED) on April 28, 2025. The event was graced by Shri Vivek Srivastava, Regional Director, RBI, Chandigarh, and Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, Superintendent of Police (SP), Chandigarh.
In his inaugural address, Shri Vivek Srivastava expressed concern over the rising number of senior citizens falling victim to cyber frauds. He emphasized the proactive role being played by RBI in promoting financial literacy and ensuring the sanitization of digital transactions. Shri Srivastava stressed the importance of empowering citizens, especially community representatives, with awareness about the methods used by cyber fraudsters.
Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, SP, Chandigarh Police, in her address, highlighted the critical role of the Cyber Crime Cell in combating cyber frauds. She shared essential do’s and don’ts for safeguarding against cyber threats and stressed the importance of awareness in preventing such crimes.
The programme featured sessions led by experts including Shri Amitabh Sharma and Shri Pankaj Kaushik from HDFC Bank, Shri Abhishek from the Cyber Crime Cell of Chandigarh Police, and officials from RBI. They provided valuable insights into safe online banking practices, cyber hygiene tips, and tools available for secure digital transactions.
The awareness programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from CRAWFED members and proved to be a valuable initiative in enhancing financial and digital literacy at the grassroots level. This initiative aligns with RBI’s ongoing efforts to foster a more secure and informed digital economy. The event was well-received and appreciated by all participants.
