THERE IS NO PLACE FOR CRIMINAL ELEMENTS IN PUNJAB POLITICS: SUNIL JAKHAR
Raj Sadosh/Abohar.
Following the election of the Mayor of the Abohar Municipal Corporation and the President of the Fazilka Municipal Council, former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar said the victory belonged to BJP workers. He stated that the result marked the defeat of every tactic used by the Punjab government and represented a victory for democracy and the people’s faith.
Jakhar said the people of Abohar had sent a message to all of Punjab that there is no place for criminal elements in the state’s politics. He alleged that the AAP government had deteriorated to the point where its senior leaders were compelled to bring alleged criminals into the party in order to win elections but Punjab had never accepted such politics in the past and would not accept it in the future.
Former BJP state chief also pledged to eliminate criminal elements from politics. He said the Punjab govt had promised to eliminate gangsters, but instead, according to him, it was encouraging the criminalization of politics by admitting “undesirable elements” into the AAP.
Jakhar said that the BJP had chosen a woman, Pooja Wadhwa, as the Mayor of Abohar in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of women’s empowerment. He added that her family had been associated with public service for many years.
He said that he considers all the people of Abohar to be one family and described the victory as a collective success for the entire city. The BJP’s victory in the Abohar Corporation lays the foundation for the party to form the next government in Punjab. He expressed confidence that the BJP would win the upcoming Assembly elections and provide good governance in accordance with the wishes of the people.
BJP’s Pooja Wadhwa was elected Mayor, Dharamvir Malkat – Senior Deputy Mayor and Deepak Chhapola – Deputy Mayor.
Also present on the occasion were former minister Surjit Kumar Jyani, Abohar MLA Sandeep Jakhar, Vandana Sangwal, district BJP president Kaka Kamboj and Ranjam Kamra.
