The district administration today intensified its crackdown on unauthorised colonies by carrying out a demolition drive in Satiyewala and Mallwal villages, where illegal constructions and infrastructure developed without approval were razed.
Acting on the directions of ADC (G) Dr Amandeep Kaur, a joint team comprising the Duty Magistrate, police personnel and officials of the District Town Planner’s office demolished roads, lanes, sewer lines, manholes and other unauthorised structures constructed in the illegal colonies.
Dr Kaur appealed to the public not to purchase plots, houses, buildings or shops in unauthorised colonies, stating that such colonies are not entitled to government civic amenities or other official facilities.
She said the administration will continue taking similar action against any new unauthorised colonies that come up in the district. She also warned that criminal cases would be registered against those responsible for developing such illegal colonies.
