ANTI-SOCIAL ELEMENTS’ RISING MENACE IN ABOHAR CREATE PANIC

Amidst the rising menace of anti-social elements carrying “kapa” in Abohar, three bikers allegedly robbed a pedestrian near former Mayor Vimal Thatai’s house—close to Patel Park—around 8:30 PM last night. They reportedly threatened the victim with a “kapa” during the incident. The entire incident was captured on nearby CCTV cameras.

According to reports, Mana Bhateja was walking home when three bikers intercepted him. Two of them reportedly dismounted. It is alleged that they surrounded Mana Bhateja and assaulted him. Threatening to strike him with the weapon, they allegedly snatched approximately Rs 2,000 and a mobile phone before fleeing.

Following the incident, locals expressed concern that criminal and anti-social elements are becoming increasingly emboldened in the city. People demanded strict action against such individuals and an increase in night-time police patrols. Residents feared that if these criminals are not reined in promptly, the situation could worsen in the coming days.

In a separate incident, an unidentified woman allegedly picked the pocket of a co-passenger traveling in an e-rickshaw, making off with Rs 4,800 and important documents. Anil Kumar from Staff Colony on Sri Ganganagar Road, had boarded the e-rickshaw after completing some work at Punjab National Bank main branch in the afternoon; he was to go to the Tara Estate.

A woman was already seated in the rickshaw and got off at Ambedkar Chowk. Later, when the e-rickshaw reached near the old market committee chowk, Anil Kumar asked the driver to stop so he could buy fruit. Upon reaching into his pocket to make the payment, he discovered that Rs 4,800, his Aadhaar card, and Voter ID card were missing. He suspected that the woman who had been seated next to him picked his pocket. The victim immediately rushed to Dr. BR Ambedkar Chowk and searched extensively for the woman but found no trace of her. The incident caused panic among the public.
