ASSISTANT JAIL SUPERINTENDENT ARRESTED IN ₹20,000 BRIBERY CASE, POLICE TO SEEK REMAND

Vikram Ditya Sharma/Ferozepur

A day after arresting a jail warden for allegedly accepting a ₹20,000 bribe to return a confiscated mobile phone to an inmate, the police have arrested Assistant Jail Superintendent Binny Tang in connection with the same case. SP (Detective) Manjeet Singh said the officer’s role surfaced during the preliminary investigation and he will be produced before a court to seek police remand for further questioning.

The case was registered after jail warden Rahul (Belt No. 2939) was allegedly caught accepting the bribe in exchange for returning the prohibited mobile phone. An internal inquiry by the jail authorities found that prison rules had been violated, following which legal action was initiated. Police said the investigation is continuing and more arrests or revelations cannot be ruled out.
