Amidst Independence Day preparations in Sriganganagar—a district bordering Pakistan—a local youth was apprehended on the spot after he was allegedly attempting to scale the wall of the 163rd Battalion camp of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Raisinghnagar. Evidence of frequent contact with Pakistani numbers was reportedly found on the accused’s mobile phone, raising suspicions that he intended to transmit sensitive information regarding the Army and BSF across the border.
According to reports, on August 9 at approximately 6:05 PM, Subhash Chander—a resident of village Chak 2-FF—attempted to enter the BSF camp premises by climbing over the boundary wall. Camp personnel immediately apprehended him. The accused possessed neither authorization nor an identity card.
The following day, the BSF had him medically examined at the Raisinghnagar Community Health Center and subsequently handed him over to the local police. Based on the BSF’s report, the police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Information reveals that the most startling evidence emerged during the examination of the mobile phone recovered from the accused; call and message logs showed multiple contacts with Pakistani mobile numbers bearing the country code ’92’. The accused had been regularly calling and messaging these numbers, sources indicated.
Intelligence sources suggest the accused likely intended to infiltrate the camp to gather information, photographs, or other sensitive details regarding the security forces, with the aim of relaying them to Pakistani handlers. This attempt was thwarted due to the alertness of the BSF personnel. He will now undergo interrogation at the Joint Interrogation Center (JIC). Security agencies are conducting a thorough investigation into his background, network of contacts, and motives.
