Panchkula Police continues to take strict action against those involved in crimes against women and innocent children, ensuring that offenders are brought to justice. In a significant development, a man accused of attempting to sexually assault a four-year-old girl in 2022 has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹25,000 by the POCSO Fast Track Special Court. The conviction follows an effective investigation by Panchkula Police and strong arguments by the prosecution.
Giving details of the case, DCP Panchkula IPS Aditi Singh said that a case under the POCSO Act was registered at Sector-20 Police Station in February 2022 on the complaint of a woman. The complainant alleged that the accused had attempted to sexually assault her four-year-old daughter. Considering the seriousness of the matter, Sector-20 Police immediately initiated an investigation. The victim was sent for a medical examination, and after completing all necessary legal formalities, the accused was arrested.
During the trial, Panchkula Police presented the relevant evidence and facts before the court, while the prosecution effectively argued the case. As a result, on November 3, 2026, Additional Sessions Judge Manish Dua of the POCSO Fast Track Special Court convicted the accused under Section 6 read with Section 18 of the POCSO Act and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹25,000. The court also directed that the fine amount be paid to the victim in accordance with the provisions of the POCSO Act. In case of non-payment of the fine, the convict will undergo an additional six months of simple imprisonment.
Commissioner of Police IPS Pankaj Nain has appealed to parents to remain vigilant about the safety of young children and avoid placing blind trust in anyone. He urged parents to educate children, according to their age, about good touch and bad touch so that they can recognise inappropriate behaviour and immediately inform their parents. He further appealed to the public to inform the police without delay about any suspicious activity or serious incident involving children.
