The Barnala police have dismantled an alleged illegal liquor storage facility and recovered 90 boxes of liquor, while also seizing four vehicles, officials said on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided the suspected warehouse and found a large quantity of liquor allegedly stored there illegally, officials said.During the operation, 90 boxes of liquor were recovered, and four vehicles allegedly used in connection with the illegal liquor trade were taken into possession, police said.
The alleged operators of the warehouse, a husband-and-wife Ravi Kumar and sony Rani fled the scene before they could be apprehended, officials said.Police have launched a search to trace and arrest the absconding accused. Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the liquor and its intended destination, they said.A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Excise Act, police said.
The action comes amid intensified enforcement against liquor smuggling and the illegal sale of liquor in Barnala district. The Barnala Police have recently conducted several operations resulting in the seizure of liquor and vehicles allegedly used for its transportation.
