BJP’s Anita Jerath was today elected President of the Fazilka Municipal Council. She was elected councilor for the second time while her husband, Ashok Jerath, had served as a counselor for four terms. Party high command decided in her favour being the senior most political and social activist family. Former Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar and former minister Surjit Jyani were present to hail her election. Both thanked people for making a win possible.

In the MC election, BJP secured win in 12 wards, Congress in 9 and AAP won only in 4 wards. None of the AAP councilors besides MLA Narinder Pal Singh Sawna attended today’s election meeting. AAP councilor, Bhagwan Dass Kamboj had switched loyalty to the BJP, he was elected Senior Vice President while Rani Devi was elected Vice President.

BJP councilors had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court as election of officials had been delayed. Punjab Govt assured to convene election meeting within a week. The HC appointed senior Advocate Ranvijay Singh as observer. Complete videography of the proceedings was ordered besides making adequate security arrangements. BJP recorded a comfortable win. There were jubilant celebrations that included exchanging dry colors and sweets.
