BLOODY CONFLICT OVER CRICKET, DHARNA STAGED OUTSIDE ABOHAR POLICE STATION

Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

An orgy of hooliganism took place late last night in the Nai Abadi area of Abohar. Due to rivalry over cricket, some youths barged into the house of a child with swords and weapons and injured his family members. The injured have been admitted to the civil hospital for treatment.

Dissatisfied with the functioning of the police, the people of the locality staged a protest outside City-2 police station and blocked the road. It is said that a boy named Karan was playing cricket yesterday with other children in Nai Abadi. Meanwhile, a boy named Sujal from the same locality came there and asked the children to feed him cricket too. When the children refused, he allegedly threatened them and left.

Karan’s family informed the City-2 police that Sujal had left after threatening them. It is said that the police did not take it seriously. At around 10 pm, the said youth along with several of his companions allegedly entered Karan’s house carrying swords. They attacked the child’s father Dinesh and his uncle Satish Kumar several times with a machete and left them bleeding.

In anger over the increasing hooliganism in Nai Abadi and neighbouring areas, people staged a dharna today outside City-2 police station and blocked the road. They demanded strict action against the attackers. Police station in-charge Davinder Singh said that MLR was awaited, action will be taken accordingly.
