CBI ARRESTS SENIOR RAILWAY OFFICER IN VARANASI WHILE ACCEPTING RS. 1.70 LAKH BRIBE

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Senior Divisional Materials Manager (Sr. DMM) of North Eastern Railway (NER), Varanasi, UP, in a bribery case.

The CBI registered the instant case on 23.07.2026 against the said accused based on a complaint from the Proprietor of a GeM registered private Firm, who had supplied furniture worth Rs. 9,47,510 to O/o Sr. DMM, NER, Varanasi during the period February 2026 to June, 2026 and had received part payment. It was alleged that the accused Sr. DMM demanded illegal gratification of Rs. 1,70,000 on 15.07.2026 in lieu of previous payments and for passing further payment of the complainant. The accused public servant had threatened the complainant that his firm will not be awarded further contracts if his demand is not fulfilled.

The CBI laid a trap on 23.07.2026 and caught the accused red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs.1,70,000. The accused was arrested and produced before the Competent Court in Lucknow which remanded him to Judicial Custody till 07.08.2026.

Investigation is continuing.
