Face2News/New Delhi

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), has successfully secured the extradition of Red Notice subject IQBAL SINGH from Portugal to India on 13.05.2026.

The subject was wanted in connection with case No. – RC-23/2020/NIA/DLI, registered by National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The subject was actively involved in trans-border smuggling of heroin from Pakistan through the international border and had formed a terror-linked network for smuggling, distribution and sale of heroin in India.

At the request of NIA, CBI got a Red Notice published against the subject through INTERPOL channels. Subsequently, the subject was geo-located in Portugal and arrested by the Portuguese authorities. Thereafter, an extradition request was sent to the authorities in Portugal. Following due legal proceedings, the subject was extradited to India.

A team of NIA visited Portugal to bring back the fugitive to India. The team, along with the subject, arrived in India on 13.05.2026.

The CBI, as the National Central Bureau for INTERPOL in India, coordinates with all Law Enforcement Agencies in India through BHARATPOL for assistance via INTERPOL channels. Due to the coordinated efforts of MEA, MHA and various law enforcement agencies, more than 160 wanted criminals have been successfully brought back to India in the last few years.
