CBI FILES CHARGESHEET AGAINST A BANK OFFICER AND A FIRM OWNER IN DIGITAL ARREST CASE

Fae2News/New Delhi

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has charge sheeted the owner of a firm belonging to Pulwama, Kashmir and a Dy. Manager of Axis Bank in a Digital Arrest Case.

It may be recalled that a senior citizen of Delhi has been defrauded of an amount of Rs.1.6 crore in a digital arrest scam wherein the criminals impersonating themselves as law enforcement and judicial authorities made video calls to her and extorted the funds. Hon’ble Supreme Court transferred this case from Delhi Police to CBI and it was registered by CBI in January, 2026. The CBI has arrested the accused of a private firm whose current account was used for receiving digital arrest fraud amounts. Part of the crime proceeds were also paid to the Dy. Manager of Axis Bank for facilitating siphoning of the funds.

Investigation, conducted so far, has revealed the role of trans-national organized gang based in South-East Asia in perpetrating this digital arrest fraud. The charge sheet has been filed for offences of criminal conspiracy, receiving stolen property, cheating and using forged document under BNS, offences of cheating and impersonation using computer resource under IT Act and offences of bribery under Prevention of Corruption Act.

The CBI reiterates its firm commitment to taking stringent legal action against individuals and entities that assist cybercriminals by allowing misuse of banking and telecom infrastructure.

The public is advised to remain vigilant against fraudulent schemes, particularly those involving so-called “digital arrest” tactics. The CBI emphasizes that there is no legal concept of a “digital arrest”. The Citizens are urged not to panic or comply with such calls.

Members of the public are further cautioned against fraudulent investment schemes and impersonation calls made in the name of law enforcement or regulatory agencies. Any suspicious activity should be promptly reported to the appropriate authorities or cybercrime portal.
