A 14-member delegation of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM), led by its President Sanjeev Chadha, actively participated in the National Traders’ Convention organized by All India Udyog Vyapar Mandal in Vrindavan.
During the convention, CBM strongly raised several long-pending issues concerning traders of Chandigarh at the national level. The delegation also submitted a detailed memorandum of demands to Babu Lal Gupta.
President Sanjeev Chadha demanded amendments to Section 16 of the CGST Act to safeguard the interests of honest buyers under GST reforms. He stated that genuine buyers should not lose Input Tax Credit if a supplier’s GST registration is cancelled retrospectively. He also demanded an extension of the export period from 90 days to 180 days, reduction of GST on rent for composition scheme dealers from 18 percent to 5 percent, and further simplification of FSSAI provisions.
The trade body also sought equal benefits for traders under MSME policies, similar to manufacturers. These demands included collateral-free loans, protection under the MSME Samadhan Portal for delayed payments, and inclusion in government schemes and subsidies.
The delegation further demanded the implementation of a One Time Settlement (OTS) Scheme for old VAT cases in Chandigarh on the lines of Punjab. It also urged that Chandigarh traders should receive policy benefits and relaxations similar to those provided to traders in Punjab and Haryana.
On local issues, the trade body expressed concern over outdated building bylaws, unjust penalty charges, lack of adequate support for new entrepreneurs, and procedural delays and administrative complexities affecting ease of doing business.
The delegation also included senior office-bearers such as Kiran Narad, Varinder Gupta, Naresh Mahajan, Balwinder Singh and Radhey Lal Bajaj, among others.
CBM reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the interests of Chandigarh’s trading community and stated that it would continue to raise these issues strongly at all appropriate forums in the future.
