CHANDIGARH TRAFFIC POLICE ORGANIZED “HAR GHAR TIRANGA” RALLY, ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS PROGRAMME

As part of its continuous efforts to promote road safety and the spirit of patriotism, and in connection with the celebrations of “Har Ghar Tiranga – 150 Years of Vande Mataram”, Chandigarh Traffic Police organized a special Har Ghar Tiranga Rally and Road Safety Awareness Programme at PGGC, Sector-11, Chandigarh.

The programme was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda, IPS, Director General of Police, UT Chandigarh, and the guidance of Sh. Pushpendra Kumar, IPS, Inspector General of Police, UT Chandigarh, Sh. Sumer Partap Singh, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police (Security & Traffic), and under the close supervision of Sh. Lakshay Pandey, DANIPS,

DSP/Traffic (R&D), Road Safety and Dr. Parvesh Sharma, CPS, DSP/Traffic, Children Traffic Park, Sector-23, Chandigarh.
As part of the initiative, the Chandigarh Traffic Police organized a Road Safety Awareness Programme – “Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha” along with a rally “Har Ghar Tiranga” started in front of PGGC, Sector-11, Chandigarh. The programme witnessed the participation of more than 150 participants, including students, NCC cadets, staff and guest faculty. Principal, Prof. Rama Arora, Ms. Deepshikha, Dean, Dr. Nemi Chand Gulia, State NSS Officer, Mr. Ranajan Verma Vice-Principal, Dr. Munish Kumar, NSS Incharge, Dr. Monika Dara, Coordinator of the event extended valuable support and participated in the programme.

A team from the Women & Child Support Unit also participated in the programme and sensitized the students about women and child safety, relevant laws, and important rights and safeguards available to them.

The primary objective of the programme was to sensitize the youth about responsible road behaviour, essential traffic rules and regulations, and the importance of adopting safe road practices. The participants were also encouraged to hoist the National Flag with a sense of pride and patriotism under the “Har Ghar Tiranga” initiative.

SI Roshni Devi, In-charge, Children Traffic Park, along with her dedicated team, conducted an interactive session on the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, its amendments effective from 1st September 2019, the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, and the Motor Vehicle Driving Regulations, 2017.

During the session, participants were educated on various aspects of road safety, including the use of BIS/ISI-marked standard helmets, seatbelts, proper use of indicators, obeying speed limits, traffic signals, lane discipline, and switching off vehicle engines at red lights to help reduce vehicular pollution. The participants were also encouraged to display humanitarian values by giving priority to ambulances and other emergency vehicles and by extending timely assistance to road accident victims in accordance with the provisions of the Good Samaritan Law “Raah Veer” scheme.

A Road Safety Pledge was administered to all participants, motivating them to follow traffic rules and adopt safe and responsible road behaviour.
