DEATH OF ANOTHER YOUNG MAN SUSPECTED DUE TO DRUG OVERDOSE

Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

A young man from Danewala Satkosi village in Abohar, is suspected to be involved in a drug overdose incident. Khuian Sarwar police today recorded the statements of the deceased’s family members and handed over the body to them after the post-mortem. The deceased worked as a daily-wage labourer.

The family of about 25-year-old Pawan Kumar said that yesterday he had left home with his friend Kabul Singh for some work. In the evening, Kabul returned home and told them that they had gone to a Dhani in Patrewala village, where Pawan’s condition worsened after “taking an overdose of chitta”. When the family brought him home, Pawan had died. The family informed the Khuian Sarwar police station.

Kabul reportedly told the police that they had purchased the drugs from a person in the Dhaani of Patrewala, and that Pawan died due to an overdose. ASI Pratap Singh recorded the statements of Kabul Singh and the deceased’s family members. The ASI said that if the post-mortem confirms death due to drugs, strict action will be taken against the suspect.

Earlier, a farmer, identified as Sukhjinder Singh Khaira (40), was found dead under suspicious circumstances in village Panjawa, under the jurisdiction of Khuian Sarwar police station. The victim’s family had alleged that Sukhjinder died due to drug overdose. Police apprehended Prem Kumar and Nishan Singh in this case and said the exact cause of death would be determined on receiving the post-mortem report. Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Gunwant Singh had alleged that sale of drugs in rural areas remained unchecked.
