A special court in Delhi has sentenced BJP MLA Raju Kumar Singh to four years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a tragic celebratory firing incident that took place in 2018.
The Rouse Avenue Court convicted the legislator under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and various provisions of the Arms Act. In addition to the prison sentence, the court directed Singh to pay ₹25 lakh as compensation to the victim’s family, emphasizing the need for justice and financial support for the bereaved family.
The case dates back to 2018, when indiscriminate firing was allegedly carried out during a private celebration. A bullet fired during the celebrations struck an innocent bystander, resulting in the person’s death.
After years of legal proceedings, the court has now delivered its verdict, holding the MLA responsible for the fatal incident.
Legal experts say the judgment sends a strong message that the misuse of firearms during celebrations will not be tolerated, regardless of the political status or influence of the accused. The ruling reinforces the principle that everyone is equally accountable under the law.
