The Health Department’s drug control team seized medicines and MTP kits worth nearly Rs 43 lakh during surprise inspections at two medical establishments and a drug warehouse in Ferozepur.

The joint team comprising Drug Control Officer, Ferozepur, Sonia Gupta; Drug Control Officer, Faridkot, Harjinder Singh; and Drug Control Officer, Fazilka, Harita Bansal, conducted the inspections under the directions of Zonal Licensing Authority Lakhwant Singh.

The team first inspected M/s Pills Club, a medical store in the city, where discrepancies were found in the purchase and sale records of medicines. The firm owner reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the irregularities.

According to the CMO, the team seized five types of allopathic medicines, including 14,100 tablets and 7,920 MTP kits, worth around Rs 30.24 lakh.

The team subsequently raided the Gobar Mandi-based warehouse of M/s RS Pharma, where discrepancies were also found in the stock and purchase and sale records.

Eight types of medicines were seized from the warehouse, including 1,511 MTP kits, 44,400 capsules and 1,569 tablets. The seized stock was valued at around Rs 12.76 lakh, the CMO said.

In all, medicines and MTP kits worth Rs 42,99,978 were seized during the operation.

Drug Control Officer Sonia Gupta said further investigation was underway and departmental as well as legal action was being initiated against the concerned firms under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
