EX MLA NARANG RESIGNS AS AAP’S HALQA IN-CHARGE

Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

Former MLA Arun Narang, the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) constituency in-charge for Abohar, resigned from his post today on moral grounds; however, he stated that he would continue to serve the party as an associated member. He has sent his resignation to AAP’s Punjab Affairs Incharge Manish Sisodia.

Manoj Tripathi, a senior analyst, described the development as an immediate fall-out of BJP’s big win in the Abohar Mayoral election. Others recalled that Narang had on July 10 announced AAP candidate’s win in the mayoral election. AAP’s state headquarters also endorsed the claim even when the officials asserted that no election could be held. Narang had distributed sweets to celebrate the win.

Narang explained that he was resigning because he failed to secure the mayoral seat for the party in the Abohar Municipal Corporation elections. He affirmed his continued support for the party and stated that he would serve it just like any ordinary member. He clarified that he had resigned only from the post of Halqa In-charge, not from the party itself, and would continue to work as a party activist.

In the 2022 elections in Abohar constituency, Sandeep Jakhar (INC) had secured 49,924 votes, AAP’s Deep Kamboj got 44,453 and Arun Narang got (BJP) 21,534 votes. Narang quit BJP after senior politician Sunil Jakhar was appointed state president. Arun Narang in September 2023 joined Aam Aadmi Party and replaced Deep Kamboj as Halqa in-charge. Deep later quit AAP and joined SAD.

It is said that Narang was “feeling uncomfortable” after AAP leadership inducted a murder conspiracy convict’s daughter-in-law into the party making people guess that she may be given ticket to contest the next Vidhan Sabha election.

BJP’s win in mayoral election, conducted in the presence of a High Court appointed Observer is considered as a major set-back to AAP. BJP former state chief Sunil Jakhar said that this was indicative of Assembly poll outcome prediction.
