FEROZEPUR DIVISION EMERGES AS KEY LINK IN KASHMIR’S FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN, RECORDS 50 OERCWBT SURGE IN GRAIN LOADING

Reinforcing its crucial role in the country’s food supply network, the Ferozepur Railway Division recorded a 50 per cent increase in grain loading for Kashmir Valley during May 2026 by dispatching nine rakes of foodgrains to Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir.

As per information provided by the railway officials, nine rakes comprising six rakes of rice and three rakes of wheat were supplied by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to the Anantnag goods shed during May.
The consignments originated from railway stations including Jagraon, Phagwara, Nurmahal, Khasa, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur City, Faridkot and Goniana Bhai Jagta. The achievement marks a 50 per cent rise in loading compared to April 2026.

Railway officials said that the initiative assumes significance as Kashmir Valley, owing to its mountainous terrain and limited cultivable land, is heavily dependent on foodgrain supplies from other parts of the country to meet its annual requirements. The regular movement of wheat and rice through the rail network helps ensure uninterrupted availability of foodgrains to the people of the region.

DRM Sanjeev Kumar said that transportation through railways is not only cost-effective and secure but also ensures timely delivery of large quantities of foodgrains, helping maintain stable supplies and affordable prices for consumers.

“Ferozepur Division continues to play an important role in strengthening the nation’s food supply chain. The division serves as a vital link between farmers and consumers and remains committed to ensuring the safe, swift and timely transportation of foodgrains across the country”, said DRM
