FINANCE MINISTER CHEEMA HOLDS EXTENSIVE DISCUSSIONS WITH VARIOUS EMPLOYEE UNIONS AND WELFARE ASSOCIATIONS

Reaffirming the Bhagwant Mann Government’s commitment to resolving the genuine concerns of employees and different workforce segments through dialogue, transparency and a constructive approach, Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema, who heads the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to address employees’ issues, on Tuesday held a series of meetings with representatives of various employee unions and associations.

During the meetings, delegations representing the Sanyukt Divyang Morcha (Punjab), Punjab Water Supply & Sewerage Board Employees Contract Workers and Labour Union, MGNREGA Karamchari Union (Punjab) and Netraheen Ekta Punjab Association submitted their memorandums to the Cabinet Sub-Committee and apprised Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema of their administrative, service-related and welfare concerns.

Chairing the deliberations, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema gave a patient hearing to the representatives of each delegation and took note of the issues raised by them. “The Punjab Government believes in maintaining an open-door policy and remains committed to engaging with employees and their representatives in a constructive and transparent manner,” he added.

Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the government recognises the contribution of employees and various workforce segments towards the functioning of the state and is committed to examining genuine grievances with a positive approach.

The Finance Minister directed the concerned administrative departments to thoroughly examine the representations submitted by the employee unions and associations. He asked the departments to assess the issues in accordance with the existing policies and rules and explore viable solutions within the permissible framework.

He further directed the departments to examine the matters in a time-bound manner so that genuine concerns can be addressed appropriately.

The Finance Minister reiterated that the Cabinet Sub-Committee would continue to engage with employee representatives and examine their concerns with the objective of finding practical and policy-compliant solutions.
