FIRE BREAKS OUT IN SRIGANGANAGAR-BANDRA TRAIN, MAJOR ACCIDENT AVERTED

A fire broke out last night in the Sriganganagar-Bandra Terminus Express (train number 14721) that had departed from Sriganganagar station, due to brake binding. Timely control prevented a major fire incident. There was no loss of life or property of any kind.

According to railway sources, the incident occurred in coach number M-2. The fire flared up because of tight brakes (brake binding) and a hot axle problem near Banwali station between kilometre 147/06-5.

As soon as the fire broke out, there was a panic among the passengers on the train. However, with the cooperation of the passengers, railway staff showed presence of mind and worked to control the fire. Four fire extinguishers were used and the fire was completely extinguished.

Due to the fire, the train was delayed by 28 minutes. As soon as information was received from Banwali station master Yogesh Kumar, GRP and RPF teams from Sriganganagar reached the spot. The fire brigade was also informed immediately, but before their arrival the staff and passengers had already brought the fire fully under control. After investigation, the train was allowed to proceed further.

Railway sources said that no passenger or staff member was injured and no luggage was damaged. Railway officials are taking the incident seriously and a detailed investigation is underway.
