Raj Sadosh/Abohar.
A day after hundreds of people organised a protest and blocked the Abohar-Malout Chowk, City-1 Police today arrested five individuals—including the boy’s maternal uncle—in connection with the abduction of a minor girl from Gobind Nagari about five weeks ago.
Acting under the leadership of DSP Harish Kumar, the police arrested Balwinder Singh of Seed Farm Pakka and the boy’s maternal uncle), Lakhwinder Singh of village Ghazni, Ferozepur, Buta Singh of Seed Farm, Raja Singh (son of the village Sarpanch), and Jarnail Singh of Jhugge Lal Singh.
Investigations reportedly indicated that these suspects had directly or indirectly assisted in the elopement and aided the prime accused. Police believe that interrogating them will help locate the boy and the girl. The police had previously arrested the boy’s mother and his friend, Jagsir Singh, in this case; however, the prime accused (the boy) and the minor girl remain at large.
Angry by the slow pace of the investigation, the girl’s family and leading activists staged a protest yesterday, demanding immediate action from the police administration. During the protest, police officials assured the Gobind Nagari based family of concrete progress within five days. The police state that continuous raids are being conducted to locate the prime accused, his maternal grandfather, and the minor girl, and they expect to find them soon.
