Thieves targeted a house in Anand Nagari here last night and stole about 30 to 35 tola gold from there. At the time of the incident the entire family had gone to a wedding ceremony in Tarn Taran. The incident came to light this morning when a domestic help and one of the house owner’s relatives visited the house.
Sources said that owner Harjit Singh’s one son is NRI and others of the family live here, they had gone to Tarn Taran for the last two days.
This morning, when Harjit Singh’s granddaughter and a domestic help lady opened the lock of the house, they found locks of the rooms inside the house were broken and goods were scattered. They informed councillor Mehar Chand Taneja and City-1 Police.
It appeared that thieves entered the house through a staircase last night and broke the cupboard in the room and took about 15-20 gold ornaments, weighing around 30-35 tola. After the incident, when the CCTV cameras installed nearby were checked, it was found that at around 12.30 in the night, someone entered the house using a bamboo stick and within just 25 minutes, committed this major crime and ran away.
A dozen police personnel reached the spot and started scanning the cameras in the streets while fortifying the entire locality. The police are investigating this incident thoroughly.
