In a major breakthrough against transnational organised crime, gangster Goldy Dhillon, the alleged mastermind behind the murder of Shri Kumar Medical Hall cashier Janaki Das in Chandigarh’s Sector 11, has been arrested in Spain with the assistance of Indian law enforcement agencies. Authorities have now initiated the process to extradite him to India.
Following his extradition, the Chandigarh Police will obtain a production warrant to interrogate Dhillon in connection with the high-profile Sector 11 murder case, in which Janaki Das was shot dead in broad daylight last month.
Dhillon is already a wanted accused in cases investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which has announced a ₹10 lakh reward for information leading to his arrest. Security agencies had been tracking his movements overseas for several months before his detention in Spain.
A native of Rajpura, Punjab, Gurpreet Singh alias Goldy Dhillon initially became involved in criminal activities through cases related to assault, criminal intimidation, and violations of the Arms Act. He fled India in 2022 and has since been operating an extensive criminal network from abroad, allegedly directing extortion, targeted killings, and other organised crimes across Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, and the Delhi-NCR region. Investigators also describe him as a close associate of Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar.
The arrest is expected to provide investigators with crucial leads into several ongoing cases linked to foreign-based gang networks. Officials believe Dhillon’s custodial interrogation could help uncover the larger conspiracy behind the Sector 11 murder as well as other organised crime operations allegedly orchestrated from overseas.
