Under the Punjab Government’s anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, the Health Department organised special drug awareness camps at the OOAT Centres in Firozeshah and Talwandi Bhai.

The camps were organised under the directions of Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma and Civil Surgeon Dr Parminder Singh.

During the camps, health experts and counsellors sensitised people about the harmful physical, mental and social effects of drug abuse. They urged people to stay away from drugs, adopt a healthy lifestyle and spread awareness among their family members and people in their neighbourhood.

Medical Officer Dr Parveen said drug addiction not only affected an individual’s health but also had a damaging impact on the entire family and society. He stressed that besides government initiatives, active participation from every section of society was essential to build a drug-free Punjab.

He said people suffering from drug addiction should be treated with empathy rather than hatred and encouraged to seek treatment and rehabilitation so that they could return to the mainstream of society.

The participants were also urged to play an active role in spreading awareness against drug abuse and extend their support to the government and administration in eliminating the menace. They were encouraged to approach their nearest OOAT Centre for treatment and counselling in case of any drug-related problem.

Counsellor Rajwinder Kaur and ASHA workers Ramandeep Kaur, Saroj Rani and Veena Rani were among those present.
