Continuing its crackdown against cross-border narcotics smuggling, the CIA staff of Ferozepur police arrested three alleged drug smugglers and recovered 4.254 kg heroin from their possession during a special operation carried out in the city area.

SSP Bhupinder Singh said that acting on specific intelligence inputs, the CIA team laid a trap and intercepted three youths travelling on a motorcycle without a registration number. The accused were identified as Ranjeet Singh alias Rana (22) and Arshdeep Singh alias Arshi (19), both residents of Gamewala village in Mamdot area, along with Akashdeep Singh alias Akash (19), a resident of Aasal village falling under Sadar police station area.

The SSP said that during the search operation, the police recovered 4.254 kg heroin along with three mobile phones from the accused. Following the recovery, a case under sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against them at City police station under FIR No. 182.

Police officials said that two of the accused, Arshdeep and Ranjeet, were also previously booked in NDPS Act cases at Mamdot and Moga police stations.

Notably, the recovery comes just days after the CIA staff had seized 10.125 kg heroin from another alleged smuggler, identified as Imran alias Omi of Leliwala village.

SSP Bhupinder Singh said that further investigations are underway to trace both the backward and forward links of the drug network.
