Welcoming the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s order directing a CBI probe into the corruption allegations raised by the ED against the OSD to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and others, BJP National Office In-Charge and MP Tarun Chugh said that the truth in the entire matter must now come out. The High Court’s order makes it clear that serious allegations cannot simply be brushed aside.
Tarun Chugh said that the ED repeatedly wrote to the Punjab DGP seeking registration of an FIR, but the Bhagwant Mann government failed to act. The question is why an FIR was not registered despite repeated requests from the ED and who the government was allegedly trying to protect. The CBI must now independently examine these questions and establish the facts.
He said that the ED investigation has raised serious allegations regarding the alleged role of persons connected with the Chief Minister’s Office and others. Allegations relating to interference in government functioning, the role of intermediaries and suspected corrupt transactions will now be examined by the CBI. Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann must answer the people of Punjab as to why such allegations have emerged from within their government.
Chugh said that while the Aam Aadmi Party has repeatedly claimed to stand against corruption, the Punjab government allegedly failed to act when the ED sought registration of an FIR. He said that instead of allowing a proper investigation, the government appeared more concerned with shielding those facing allegations. Now, nothing can be suppressed and the truth cannot remain hidden. The truth will come out.
He said that every allegation concerning public money and the functioning of the Punjab government must be thoroughly investigated. Anyone found guilty in the CBI investigation must face strict action according to law, and the complete truth must be placed before the people of Punjab.
